Tell us about what technology you are using in the studio art classroom at AIO. I've been using Jing and finally figured out the Screencast website. Students do love it. I do wonder, though, if all of them view their critiques. I also miss the interactivity of students seeing each other's comments and being able to keep everything in the classroom - our biggest challenge when we add technology, to me, anyway.
How about you?

Jing is the best tool for quick, efficient critiquing. Do all of them view the crits? I can tell with some of them, but the others? I have started trying to summarize my lengthy announcements into Top Five Things to Know that I email out at the beginning of class and in one of them I push for responses to my crits. Should I make it mandatory? Nah - it is their education and responsibility...
ReplyDeleteSomeone told me recently that they were using Skype for much more than long distance phone calls, that there was desktop sharing between instructor and student...That is my next thing to look at.

I agree with Jeff - we can tell which ones have watched our videos and I truly believe that most of them do - otherwise I wouldn't see the changes I'm seeing. Also, as Jeff said, it's their education and their responsibility.
ReplyDeleteI have used Skype screensharing and it's not so great.... The connection was choppy and the video just didn't keep up.
NOTE: One thing that is really nice about Jing is the ability to post all your student's artwork in one link they can look at. They can see thumbnails in the classroom and when they click on them, they get the full view - a good compare/contrast.
Thanks for posting about Skype and your thoughts - Merrily - how can you tell who has viewed the critiques - is that in screencast?
ReplyDeleteJeff - who has told you about Skype in the classroom? Robin
